We are proud to be taking part in Black History Month this October

First celebrated in the UK in 1987, Black History Month (BHM) continues to be marked annually every October. It is the time of year when the culture, history and achievements of Black Minority Ethnic (BME) communities take centre stage.

Throughout October events are taking place, nationally, to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions that BME people have made to the development of British society, technology, economy and arts & culture

We are proud to represent all of the people of Wales and believe very strongly in the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion. It is our belief that engaging with as diverse a range of groups as possible can only lead to a better democratic institution and legislature that delivers effectively for all the people of Wales.

As part of our work with the local Black Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, to raise awareness of our work and enhance our engagement with the BME community, we are pleased to announce that the Assembly will have stalls at four events taking place to mark Black History Month (BHM). The Assembly will be at the:

  • BHM Wales ‘Young, Black and Gifted’ awards ceremony, on Friday 30 September at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay from 12:30 -14:30.
  • Opening BHM Wales ceremony, on Saturday 01 October, at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff from 12:00 – 18:00.
  • Welsh Public Sector Network BHM event on Monday 17 October 2016, at Cardiff County Hall from 15.00 – 19.00.
  • Closing BHM Wales ceremony on Sunday 30 October, at National Waterfront Museum, Swansea from 13:00 – 17:00.

The Assembly will have stalls there that will be operated by staff, including members of our Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage (REACH) workplace equality network, so, if you are able, come along and say hello and find out more about the Assembly and the work we do.
